State Farm Insurance was a large insurance company that operated in Monroe. Many minorities were hired by the company, but the company had no Black agents in Monroe.

In 1972, Mr. Augurson became the first Black agent for State Farm in Monroe. His client base included both Blacks and Whites and he operated his agency in a race neutral context.

As the first Black agent, Augurson showed the professionalism of Blacks in an arena that required organization, management and responsibility skills. Mr. Augurson performed honorably as an agent. Soon other companies appointed Blacks as well following his success.
