Darrell Andrews served as the Band director for Carroll High School from 1949 to 1979.

Under his leadership the school band grew from a small handful to a proud marching unit of 65. He introduced the band to precision drills and began the annual
As a teacher in the 70's at Carroll High
band talent show. He wrote many popular musical selections played by the band and at the close of his teaching career wrote the music to a musical play “Attica” that was staged at
Northeast Louisiana University in the late 70’s.
Several times he was named Teacher of the Year and his introduction of the “Bulldog Rag” became a traditional fight song for the school. An accomplished songwriter, he wrote songs for many recording artists such as Ray Charles and Bobby “Blue” Bland.

After his retirement in 1979 he moved to Shreveport where he composed and directed works for the Shreveport Symphony and Shreveport Metropolitan Concert Band.

In October of 1994 he released an album of soft music entitled “Painting With Music.”
